Following Up with a Lead that has Ghosted You

Nothing gets us more excited than connected with a potential client that we just really click with. Whether they found you on social media or were referred by a friend, it’s clear that you’re a great fit for what they’re looking for. But then - nothing! No responses, no movement, and no new client.

It doesn’t have to end there! If you’ve been ghosted by a lead, try these steps for reconnecting and making progress towards your next project!

Use a different communication method.

If your emails are going unanswered, consider reaching out to your lead using a new form of communication. If they’re overwhelmed with emails and yours is getting lost in the chaos, they might be quicker to notice an Instagram DM or Facebook message. You can also explore their website to see if they have a contact form that may lead to faster response times.

Set a timeframe.

When you do hear back from a lead, try to set concrete timeframes and expectations for when they should get back to you. Sometimes we need help staying accountable, and sometimes we need to be the help! Chances are they’re connecting with you because they are overwhelmed in one area or don’t have time for it, so busy might be an understatement for them right now. Thankfully, you’re here to help!

Create a workflow for your follow up process.

Making a system to organize your leads is the best way to ensure no potential client gets left behind! Manage your leads as they arrive in one central area and create a workflow for every step of your follow up process. nd include different communication methods so nothing gets missed!

Stay in their mind.

Keeping connected in subtle ways, like leaving friendly comments and likes on Instagram posts, is the perfect tactic for someone that’s not ready to commit to your services just yet. When they are eventually ready to take on that project, you’ll be in the front of their mind when they’re looking for freelancers or providers!

Don’t let a client ghosting you put your momentum on hold. Work with them and their speed to create a partnership that works well for both of you! Until a potential client says they’re not interested, they haven’t made a decision yet. This can still be your time to shine and show how dedicated you are to them as a client!
